The Other Bank
90 minutes
Director: George Ovashvili

In 1991, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, the northwest region of the Republic of Georgia called Abkhazia fell under a series of attacks by Russian-backed separatists who engaged in the systematic killing of Georgian men and the assault and rape of Georgian women and children. Tens of thousands fled the region, becoming, in UN terms, "internally displaced." An Abkhazian man, fearing for his family's safety, sends his Georgian wife and young son to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Once back in Tbilisi, the young boy grows apart from his mother. Young Tedo decides to return to Abkhazia to find his father. His challenges, as he makes his way back to the war-torn region of Abkhazia, are enormous. The young actor playing Tedo is outstanding. The Other Bank is the Republic of Georgia's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards®. V, L
